World Meditation Day was observed in Bangladesh, as elsewhere around the globe, with a call to keep the mind healthy, highlighting that mental pollution, like environmental pollution, causes suffering in everyday life and that a healthy mind helps build strong families and a better society.

The prime event was organised in the morning at the National Press Club premises in the capital by Quantum Foundation, one of the country’s largest meditation-practising organisations.

Thousands of peace-loving people from all walks of life and different parts of the country gathered at 7am, filling the entire Press Club premises. In a moment of deep silence, participants immersed themselves in meditation, united by a collective affirmation of well-being.

In an audio message, Quantum Foundation Managing Director Nahar Al Bokhari expressed sincere gratitude to the participants.

In a separate audio message, Shahid Al Bokhari Mahajataka, pioneer of meditation practice and founder of the Quantum Method, said, “If the mind is well, everything is well.”

Former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and former National Board of Revenue Chairman Mohammad Abdul Majid, now Chairman of the Social Development Foundation; National Press Club Executive Committee Member Kazi Rawnak Hossain; Broadcast Journalist Center President and Maasranga Television Head of News Rezwanul Haque Raja; Bangladesh Photojournalists Association President A K M Mohsin; and retired Scholastica School teacher Dr Shahida Rahman spoke at the programme, sharing their personal experiences and the impact of meditation in their lives.

Senior journalists, including members of the National Press Club, media personalities and people from various professions, joined the hour-long programme.

When the United Nations declared 21 December as World Meditation Day in 2024, meditation practitioners in Bangladesh, like their counterparts around the world, felt a deep sense of joy, speakers said.

Quantum Foundation has declared 2025 as “The Year of Meditation,” underscoring the importance of expanding meditation practice across all levels of society.

The discussion highlighted anxiety, stress, restlessness, trauma, fear, uncertainty and psychosomatic illnesses linked to today’s digital lifestyle, with speakers saying meditation offers a path to freedom from these challenges and that its message should reach every household worldwide.

Alongside the capital, the day was observed simultaneously at different locations at home and abroad. In Chattogram, Rajshahi, Barishal, Khulna and Sylhet, as well as many other places across the country, large numbers of peace-loving people, including children and adolescents, took part in meditation at the same time, united by the belief that if the mind is well, everything is well.

Marking World Meditation Day, participants expressed hope that more people would join this collective journey towards well-being.
