A woman was murdered while her niece sustained critical injuries on early Wednesday in Joypurhat’s Chakborkat union.
The deceased was identified as Nurunnahar Begum, 48, while her minor niece was injured in the attacks by miscreants in Chirla village, Joypurhat Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Hossain confirmed.
Abdul Matin, the victim’s elder brother stated, after receiving a call from his younger brother’s wife, Mim Akter on on early Wednesday, he reached the house and scaled the boundary wall and found his sister, Nurunnahar, and his daughter Khadija, lying unconscious and bleeding on the floor.
Both had sustained head injuries from a tube-well handle.
The victims were rushed to Joypurhat General Hospital, where Nurunnahar succumbed to her injuries on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital while Khadija has been admitted for advanced treatment there.
OC Nazmul Hossain said the body has been sent for autopsy, and an investigation is underway. Legal action will follow.
