A joint director of Bangladesh Bank’s Chattogram office was found hanging at his rented residence in the city’s Uttar Agrabad area on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sayedur Rahman, 55.
Police said the body was recovered around 10pm and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Halishahar Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Joynal Abedin Mandal said Sayedur had returned home from office in the evening when no one else was present. Around 10pm, his wife came back and found him hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope around his neck.
“Initially, we have confirmed that he committed suicide. If there is anything beyond that, it will come out in the autopsy. We have started an investigation,” the OC said.
Sayedur lived in the rented house with his wife and three daughters.
Colleagues said he attended a meeting with fellow officials until about 6pm and was seen smiling during the session.
He had been serving as a joint director at Bangladesh Bank’s Chattogram office since his promotion two years ago.
