Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital handed a woman over to police after she allegedly got into a scuffle with physicians.

The incident occurred around 9:30pm Saturday in front of the operating theatre of Gynecology Ward 212. The DMCH police camp in‑charge, Md Faruk, confirmed the matter.

He said relatives of a patient named Moni Khatun had crowded near the theatre entrance. Two female doctors asked them to move away, but the relatives refused. When the doctors tried to push them back, Moni’s sister‑in‑law, Fahia Akter, became involved in a scuffle.

Ansar members later detained Fahia for misconduct with the doctors and took her to the hospital police camp. She was subsequently handed over to Shahbagh Police Station, which will investigate and take further legal action.

Her husband, Shamim Hossain, said their home is in Savar’s Kaundia area. His younger sister Moni was admitted for a caesarean operation. Shamim claimed that while he stepped out to feed his child, chaos erupted at the ward. He alleged that doctors, nurses, and staff tried to assault his wife.

Shamim said Fahia argued with doctors after they asked relatives to leave the gate area. When she began recording video on her phone, doctors tried to stop her.

Shamim added, “After hearing everything, I personally begged the doctors for forgiveness. My wife and family also apologised. But they did not accept it and handed her to police.”
