BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the BNP and its affiliated organisations must “win the cyber war” to counter what he described as organised propaganda against the party.
He made these comments on Sunday while inaugurating the party’s programme titled “Plan to Build the Country” at the auditorium of the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, he warned that failure to act in the digital space would leave the party at a disadvantage.
“If we cannot fight the cyber war, we will be defeated. The young generation must think seriously about this,” he said.
Fakhrul said an opportunity for restoring democracy has emerged after 15 years but claimed that new obstacles are appearing.
“Propaganda is being spread against the BNP. We must remain alert in the cyber war. Only the BNP can take the country forward,” he said.
He also cautioned against attempts to create division in the name of religion.
“We are religious people, but we do not believe in dividing the state through religion. A certain group wants to create division in the country using religion. For us, Bangladesh must come first,” he said, expressing hope that Chhatra Dal would play a role in confronting these “malicious efforts.”
Calling Bangladesh a nation at a “turning point,” Fakhrul said the most intense propaganda campaigns must be countered decisively. “BNP and its affiliated organisations must win the cyber war,” he reiterated.
Referring to Khaleda Zia’s health, he said, “The guardian of Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia, is in the hospital. She has never bowed to injustice. Tarique Rahman is constantly monitoring her condition. Everyone, regardless of political affiliation, should pray for her recovery.”
He said July 2024 marked a significant shift in the mindset of the country’s youth, who now “want change in every area—including governance and thinking.”
Fakhrul also reiterated the party’s pledge to create one crore jobs within 18 months through employment, business, agriculture, and labour opportunities.
“The plan is already finalised. This proves the BNP is an advanced political party,” he said.
He added that Ziaur Rahman began modern political reform by establishing multi-party democracy and ensured freedom of speech, religious and social rights, and media freedom.
The event was presided over by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and conducted by Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel. Others present included Dhaka District BNP General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque, and BNP Media Cell representatives.
