Bangladesh U-20 SAFF-winning captain Mithu Chowdhury said the team wants to hand the trophy to the Prime Minister.
He shared this after the unbeaten champions received a grand reception and financial rewards from the government. The event was held at the National Sports Council auditorium on the occasion of International Day of Sport. State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque handed over the awards.
Bangladesh made history by beating arch-rivals India 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the final. Each player and team official received Tk 100,000 as a reward for the achievement.
Mithu called the win a new beginning for Bangladesh football. “After the new government took charge, we are the first football team to win an international title. Our whole team has a special wish. We want to hand this trophy directly to the Honourable Prime Minister. Meeting her and sharing this joy would be a big motivation for us.”
He also praised the support from the Bangladesh Football Federation. Thanking BFF president Tabith Awal, he said, “Tabith Awal sir is taking care of all our needs. Like the national team, we are also staying in five-star hotels. If the federation continues to provide such professional support and environment, we can bring even bigger success for the country in the future.”
