Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque plans to give Bangladesh’s Under-20 football team a special reception after their SAFF win. The team may ride on an open-top bus across Dhaka.
He spoke to reporters and said, “We are discussing the matter. We will try to arrange a special reception by taking them around Dhaka city on an open-top bus.” He also praised the team. He said, “We witnessed a very thrilling match. Bangladesh secured the win in the tie breaker. I congratulate the Bangladesh team on behalf of the Honorable Prime Minister, the people of the country, and our sports family.”
Bangladesh enjoyed a proud moment in sports. The Under-20 team won the SAFF Under-20 Championship. They beat India 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the final.
The match at the Maldives National Stadium ended without goals in regular time. It went to penalties to find the winner. Goalkeeper Ismail Hossain Mahin gave Bangladesh a strong start. He saved the first shot taken by Rishi Singh.
There was a tense moment when Samuel Raksam missed his penalty. But India could not take control. Omang Dodum sent his shot over the bar. That gave Bangladesh relief. Ronan Sullivan then scored the last penalty to seal the win.
Aminul Haque also spoke about the future of the team. He said, “Since they are an Under-20 team, our age-level team, we hope they will soon get the chance to play for the senior national team. The Honorable Prime Minister and her family are very sports-friendly. We believe football, cricket, and all sports will continue to grow. We will keep working to build society and take the country forward through sports.”
