A legal notice has been sent demanding an investigation into former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, his special assistants, advisers, and former press secretary over alleged criminal involvement in handing over the measles vaccination system from the state to the private sector.
The notice, sent on Monday by Barrister Mohammad Ashraful Islam, also seeks a ban on their travel abroad until the investigation is completed.
The lawyer said a sudden severe outbreak of the nearly eradicated disease measles has occurred across the country, with over a hundred children already dead and countless others infected and hospitalised.
He demanded the formation of an investigation committee regarding the “malicious and criminal act” of transferring the measles vaccination system from the state framework to the private sector.
The notice also seeks a travel ban on former advisers Asif Nazrul, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adilur Rahman Khan Shubhra, Nurjahan Begum, Sakhawat Hossain, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Mostafa Sarwar Farooki, in addition to former press secretary Shafiqul Alam, and all concerned former personal assistants until the investigation is complete.
The cabinet secretary, health secretary, home secretary, and secretaries of other concerned ministries have been named as defendants in the notice.
The notice calls for the formation of an investigation committee and imposition of the travel ban within five days, warning that otherwise necessary legal action will be taken.
