Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan has said that the nation has faced adversities at different times and is still going through a difficult phase. However, national days like Victory Day unite the people, he said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks while speaking to the media after paying tributes at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar on the Victory Day.
Noting that a discrimination-free society has yet to be established, the DU VC said, “There are attempts to set people against each other for narrow interests. We do not want division.”
At the programme, Ducsu Vice President Shadik Kayem said, “In an independent territory, our expectation was to build a country based on justice. But that has not been possible. On the Victory Day, we pledge to bring those who have tried over the past 54 years to turn Bangladesh into a dysfunctional state under trial and establish justice.”
Meanwhile, Ducsu General Secretary SM Farhad said, “Even 54 years after victory, we have failed to build a Bangladesh based on justice. Our struggle will continue to build a just country in the Bangladesh of tomorrow.”
