A vibrant cultural program was organized on Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School in Toronto to mark Bangladesh’s 54th Victory Day. As part of the celebration, Mak Theater staged the play “Ora Jege Ase”, drawing significant appreciation from the audience.
The play, based on the story of a freedom fighter, portrays key moments and struggles experienced during the Liberation War.
Prior to the performance, a musical segment titled Jagaraner Gaan (Songs of Awakening) set an emotional tone for the evening.
The cast included Sirajul Quader Raju, Aryan Haque, Ariful Islam Rana, Ujjwal Dev, Tania Noor, Aditi Fouzia, and Mak Azad.
The original story was written by Manas Roy, while the adaptation and direction were executed by Mak Azad.
A musical ensemble featuring Canadian-based artists enriched the program. Hawaiian guitar player Enamul Kabir and performers from Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha contributed musically. A captivating dance performance was presented by Priyanjana Roy Chowdhury and her troupe, Nritya-Padakshep.
Organizers stated that the event aimed to preserve Bangladesh’s history and cultural heritage among the younger generation and promote continued cultural practice within the diaspora community.
