The United States and Iran have agreed to pause attacks and will meet Tuesday in Qatar to address their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, US media reported.
Senior American officials told Axios the two sides decided to “stop all kinetic activity” after trading strikes in recent days despite the 17 June memorandum of understanding meant to end the conflict that began in late February.
Under that deal, Tehran pledged safe passage for commercial vessels through the strait while Washington agreed to lift its blockade of Iranian ports.
Another US official said both sides “will stand down for now” and that “vessels can move freely” as talks continue, CNN reports.
Axios said US officials and a third source with knowledge confirmed the Qatar meeting.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday repeated threats of military action if Iranian strikes continue, saying Iran would “no longer exist” if the United States is “forced” to restart the war.
