The United States, Iran and regional mediators are negotiating terms for a possible 45‑day ceasefire that could pave the way for a permanent end to the war, Axios reported Sunday, citing four US, Israeli and regional sources.
The White House and State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
According to Axios, mediators are working on a two‑phase deal. The first phase would involve a 45‑day truce during which talks on a permanent settlement would take place.
The second phase would be a formal agreement to end the war. The ceasefire could be extended if more time is needed.
Separately, US President Donald Trump told the Wall Street Journal on Sunday that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday evening or face attacks on critical infrastructure.
