The United States embassy in Baghdad has come under a series of drone and rocket attacks as tensions intensify across the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, according to international media reports.
Security officials in Iraq said the strike on the heavily fortified International Zone in central Baghdad marked the most severe assault since such attacks began.
The embassy had earlier issued a security alert warning US citizens that Iran-aligned militias had repeatedly targeted the area.
At the same time, the United Arab Emirates temporarily shut its airspace after authorities detected incoming missile and drone threats from Iran.
The UAE’s civil aviation authority described the move as an exceptional precautionary step.
The closure followed shortly after flight operations resumed from Dubai International Airport, where services had earlier been suspended due to a fire near the airport.
Emirates airline later restored a limited flight schedule, while Etihad Airways said it was operating a restricted number of commercial flights from Abu Dhabi in coordination with relevant authorities after conducting safety and security assessments.
The developments come as the broader regional conflict continues to escalate, with missile strikes, air raids and growing security concerns affecting several countries across the Middle East.
