Police recovered the decomposed body of a man from a pond in Muksudpur, Gopalganj on Monday, nearly three months after he went missing.

Muksudpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter. The deceased was identified as Md Tauhidul Islam Molla.

According to family sources, Tauhidul had been missing since 16 December last year. After failing to find him despite extensive searches, his father had filed a General Diary (GD) and a complaint with Muksudpur Police Station.

The body was discovered in a pond covered with water hyacinth in the neighbouring Bhakuri village. Locals spotted the remains while clearing the water hyacinth and alerted the police.

Family members identified the body at the spot by his clothes and other distinguishing marks. Following the preparation of an inquest report, the police sent the body to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy.

Legal action will be taken on the matter.
