Singer Mika Singh has recalled how fellow singer Daler Mehndi tricked him into believing he was exchanging messages with Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The misunderstanding lasted six months and began when Mika sent songs to a phone number he thought belonged to the legendary actor.
According to NDTV, Mika shared the story during an appearance on the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Bachchan. He revealed that Daler had fooled him twice, turning his admiration for the actor into a series of embarrassing but amusing moments.
Mika first met Bachchan on the set of Daler Mehndi’s iconic song Na Na Na Na Re. Mika was a young musician with long hair at the time. He recalled his excitement when Bachchan arrived and sat beside him as he continued playing music. Mika said he still keeps a photograph from that memorable meeting.
The set also became the scene of Daler’s first prank. Mika recalled that a large spread of food arrived during the shoot. Daler told him that Jaya Bachchan had sent it, and Mika believed him. Having recently moved from Punjab and still finding his footing in the entertainment industry, he happily tucked into the meal. He later learnt that the food was simply catering for the shoot.
A one-word reply sparked six months of excitement
Years later, as Mika’s songs gained popularity, he somehow obtained a phone number he believed belonged to Amitabh Bachchan. He began messaging the number and sharing links to his songs, hoping the actor would notice his work.
After six months, a reply finally arrived. It contained just one word: “Good.”
Mika was overjoyed. He began jumping on his bed and immediately told Daler about the response. Daler then offered to arrange a conversation between Mika and Bachchan. Mika believed he was speaking to the real actor and stopped sending messages after the call.
Only later did Daler reveal the truth: he had been behind the messages and had fooled Mika once again.
Mika has built a successful career in Bollywood with a string of popular party songs. His hits include Mauja Hi Mauja from Jab We Met, Subha Hone Na De from Desi Boyz, Jumme Ki Raat from Kick, Dhinka Chika from Ready and Aaj Ki Party from Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
His song Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag remains one of his biggest hits.
