More than two decades after competing for the Indian Idol Season 1 title, singers Amit Sana and Abhijeet Sawant are set to share the stage again. Sana says there is no lingering awkwardness between them as they reunite for Indian Idol Legends Return.
According to NDTV, Sana reflected on their long-running rivalry in an interview with Mid-Day. He said the debate over the 2005 finale had mattered for a few years, but both singers gradually moved on and pursued their own paths.
Their face-off divided viewers, with some backing Sawant and others supporting Sana. Sawant won the inaugural season, while Sana finished as the first runner-up. Fans continued to debate the result long after the finale.
Despite expectations that Sana would build a successful career after the show, his musical journey did not unfold as many had predicted. Sawant, meanwhile, continued to work as a playback singer and television personality, while Sana gradually faded from the spotlight.
Sana said the competition was only one part of a much longer journey in music. “Music is like a lifelong process. You cannot think of it on the basis of one reality show,” he told Mid-Day. Although the memories of the competition remain, he said, they no longer carry the same weight.
Asked whether their reunion brought any discomfort, Sana was unequivocal. “There is absolutely no awkwardness. You will find that in the show as well,” he said. He added that viewers would see their camaraderie, affection and mutual support.
Sana also hinted at the possibility of the two singers working together. “So, I think it’s been a long time now. So, I think it’s time to make music together,” he said.
Indian Idol Legends Return is scheduled to premiere on 17 October at 8pm on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
