‘Uri’ is set for release this Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the first collaboration between lyricist Golam Murshed, guitarist-composer Lutful Ahmed Labu, popularly known as Labu Rahman and acclaimed vocalist Fahmida Nabi. The song will premiere on the YouTube channel Gaan Janala.
Recorded last November at a studio in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, Uri is one of several new songs to emerge from a recent creative partnership between Murshed and Rahman. Murshed said that while Rahman is widely recognised as a guitarist and musician, he had not previously focused on composing on a regular basis.
About a year ago, Rahman expressed a desire to concentrate on composition and proposed working exclusively with Murshed’s lyrics. That decision led to the creation of eight to ten songs in quick succession, including Uri.
For Fahmida Nabi, Uri marks her first collaboration with Rahman as a composer. Speaking about the recording process, she said she was given unusual creative freedom.
“Often in studio recordings, singers are required to follow a fixed melody,” she said. “In this case, I was able to interpret and shape the tune in my own way, which made the experience especially enjoyable.”
