A member of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF-Proseet) was shot dead by unidentified assailants early Saturday morning in Shuknochara area of Sajek Union, Baghaichhari upazila, Rangamati.
The deceased, Hegera Chakma, 50, served as a collector in the organisation.
Rangamati Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdur Robib confirmed the killing, stating that the police were on their way to the scene.
“The exact circumstances of the incident and the identities of the attackers are not yet known,” he said.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amena Marjan said authorities are verifying the details and would provide a full statement once the investigation progresses.
No response has yet been received from the UPDF-Proseet party regarding the attack.
Police have launched a formal investigation and are expected to release more information as the situation develops.
