Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, MP, stated on Wednesday that unity among the political parties that participated in the anti-fascist movement is essential to make democracy sustainable.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), the minister highlighted that leftist unity played an outstanding role in the 17-year democratic movement led by BNP.
The meeting was organised to discuss the responsibilities of political parties in the patriotic simultaneous movement to face threats against democracy posed by anti-independence forces.
Addressing the opposition, Anee noted that the current government has not even completed six months in office. He remarked that a government must be given time to be evaluated, yet some elements are already seeking to oust the administration to seize power.
The minister further warned that those attempting to create a path for “fascist Hasina” to return to the country in December must take full responsibility for their actions.
He asserted that the people of the country have historically confronted all conspiracies on the streets and called upon them to remain ready to thwart any future plots from the streets as well.
The discussion was presided over by Bir Muktijoddha Comrade Harun Chowdhury.
Special guests in attendance included Comrade Saiful Huq, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party, and Comrade Khan Md Nure Alam, general secretary of Sammobadi Dal, among others.
