The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) marked its 23rd Foundation Day in Dhaka on Sunday with a daylong programme focused on practical skills, creativity, international engagement and closer links between universities and industry.
The celebration, held at the ULAB campus under the theme “Celebrating 23 Years of Building Capability”, brought together faculty members, students, alumni, guests and other members of the university community, ULAB said in a press release.
The campus was divided into five interactive zones — Discover, Develop, Demonstrate, Distinguish and Belong — highlighting academic opportunities, experiential learning, student achievements, creativity and club activities.
Students also took part in capability showcases, while the programme included global cultural and embassy engagements, an “Ideas of Bangladesh” wall and exhibitions highlighting international partnerships.
The Confucius Institute organised Chinese calligraphy activities, while the Japanese Embassy hosted Japanese cultural activities including a yukata dress-up session and an origami workshop.
The formal ceremony began at 4:00pm with the ULAB Theme Song, followed by welcome remarks from Vice Chancellor Shamsad Mortuza.
Mortuza highlighted the university’s 23-year journey and its focus on quality education, innovation and preparing graduates for the future. A video presentation on ULAB’s achievements and milestones was also screened.
Kazi Anis Ahmed, president of ULAB’s Board of Trustees, said creativity, independent thinking and academic excellence remained central to the university’s founding vision and educational philosophy.
AKM Tareq, deputy managing director of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, attended as special guest.
Tareq highlighted the importance of practical skills, leadership and collaboration between industry and academia in preparing graduates for the future.
Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, special adviser to the Board of Trustees and treasurer of ULAB, spoke about the university’s institutional progress, innovation and future aspirations.
The ceremony also included the handover of a crest and the cutting of a cake marking the university’s 23rd anniversary.
ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor Jude William R Genilo delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests, organisers, faculty members, students, alumni and others who contributed to the programme.
The university said the Foundation Day celebration marked more than two decades of its work in academic excellence, innovation, creativity and community engagement.
The daylong festivities concluded with a concert headlined by Bangladeshi rock band Warfaze.
