United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has extended congratulations to Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following his victory in the 13th parliamentary election.

In a formal message addressed to Tarique, Starmer underscored the warm and enduring ties between the two nations.

The message highlighted London’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

“I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen our partnership and advance shared priorities. As one of the largest foreign investors in Bangladesh, we hope to continue to grow our trade and investment relationship.”

Starmer also outlined specific areas for enhanced collaboration, including tackling illegal migration, combating the effects of climate change and strengthening long-standing defence and security ties.

The letter further acknowledged Bangladesh’s humanitarian role, with UK PM stating, “UK will also continue to support Bangladesh as you generously host Rohingya refugees.”

Starmer concluded with saying, “I look forward to this next chapter in the partnership between our two countries.”
