King Charles III sent a message of congratulations to the President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the people of Bangladesh on the country’s Independence Day.
In a letter issued by the British High Commission, Dhaka, Charles expressed his delight in celebrating the occasion. He said, “On the joyous occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I are delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to Your Excellency and to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.”
He reflected on the lasting partnership between the two nations, which he described as being rooted in mutual respect and the shared values of the Commonwealth. He acknowledged the significant impact of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United Kingdom, noting that “More than 650,000 people of Bangladeshi heritage live across the United Kingdom, making a vital contribution to our national life, enriching our society and strengthening the enduring ties between our two countries.”
Emphasising the role of the Commonwealth in fostering global cooperation, Charles mentioned that the diverse and energetic younger generations provide a source of hope and progress. He expressed his anticipation for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, stating, “I look forward to the opportunity for our nations to come together at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, where we may reaffirm our shared commitments and chart a course for the future”.
Addressing environmental challenges, Charles lauded the collaborative efforts between the two countries on climate change. He remarked, “Our collaboration on climate action remains an essential feature of our relationship and I greatly value Bangladesh’s determined leadership in building resilience and advancing sustainable development as, together, we work to safeguard our environment and secure a more sustainable, prosperous future for generations to come.”
Concluding the message, Charles extended his best wishes for the future of the nation. “My wife and I send our heartfelt good wishes to you and to all the people of Bangladesh for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead”, the letter read.
