The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates has assured all kinds of cooperation to Bangladesh in the energy sector, reaffirming the strong bilateral partnership between the two countries.
Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi gave the assurance during a meeting with State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit at the ministry on Thursday afternoon, where both sides held important discussions on matters of mutual interest.
The state minister for power said the UAE has historically been one of the primary and most reliable sources for Bangladesh’s imports of crude oil and petroleum products. He reiterated the need to bring Bangladesh’s energy security under a “Bangladesh First” policy framework to manage price hikes and sudden shocks in the global fuel market.
Anindya Islam Amit also briefed the ambassador on expanding LNG trade, avoiding spot market volatility, modernising the country’s power and energy grid, reducing carbon emissions, and creating automated sub-stations and fuel bunkering facilities near ports.
Specifically, he highlighted the need for investment and technical cooperation in converting fertiliser factories and heavy steel industries from natural gas to green hydrogen or green ammonia, following the UAE’s model of creating green hydrogen production hubs.
In response, the UAE Ambassador assured his government’s keen interest in the development and expansion of Bangladesh’s power and energy sector and pledged all kinds of cooperation.
Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi expressed firm commitment to take the historic partnership between the two countries to new heights.
Energy Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, Power Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, and UAE embassy official Altap Hossain were also present.
