Two women have died in separate incidents after falling from different buildings across the capital.
The deceased were identified as actress Asma Akter Jhilik, 30, of Dhanmondi and Monica Akter, 27, of Aftabnagar, Badda.
Post-mortem examinations of both bodies were completed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue on Saturday afternoon.
In Dhanmondi, around noon on Friday, Asma Akter Jhilik fell from the balcony of the eighth floor of Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
According to the victim’s brother, Mozammel Haque, Asma Akter hailed from the Mizmiji area of Shiddhirganj, Narayanganj, and was the daughter of Moktar Hossain. She had been married to Shafiullah for three years. The couple had a daughter and resided in the Jigatola area of Hazaribagh.
The family alleged that the couple had been experiencing marital discord since their marriage. Asma’s husband had been admitted to BMCH in Dhanmondi on Wednesday due to illness. He was scheduled to be discharged on Friday morning, and Asma was attending to him at the time.
Her family alleged that Shafiullah pushed her during a quarrel, noting that no one else was in the cabin at the time.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam confirmed that a case has been filed by the family for instigation of suicide. Police have arrested Shafiullah and sent him to court. Following the post-mortem at DMCH, the body was handed over to the family.
In a separate event, Monica Akter reportedly jumped to her death from the eighth floor of her residence in Aftabnagar, Badda, at approximately 3:15pm on Friday.
Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Fatema Siddika Soma said the body was recovered from the front of the house on Friday evening and sent to the DMCH morgue. According to the family, Monica had been suffering from mental health issues for some time and was undergoing treatment.
Monica’s sister, Momina Akter Mou, shared that their family is originally from Rampura Sarkar Para village in the Gobindaganj area of Gaibandha, and their father is Mohir Uddin. Monica lived in Aftabnagar with her husband, Md Liton, and their son.
The body was handed over to the family following the completion of the post-mortem.
