State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit has expressed deep anger over the newly constructed building of Health Management Institute in Savar being left unused for four years, directing authorities to take immediate measures to make it operational.
The state minister was speaking to journalists on Saturday after inspecting the Health Management Institute in Savar and subsequently visiting Savar Upazila Hospital.
He announced that health managers are being brought under special training to elevate the standard of healthcare services at the upazila level.
Expressing severe dissatisfaction over the current situation of the institute, Muhit said, “These eye-catching buildings were constructed with public funds in 2022. Today, even after four years, they are not being utilised for any purpose.
“Clear signs of corruption, mismanagement, and negligence are visible there. Having seen this firsthand, we will take necessary actions very swiftly,” he added.
The state minister revealed that the government has initiated plans to construct modern 150-bed hospitals in 500 upazilas across the country.
He emphasised that merely building infrastructure would not suffice, as the general public would fail to receive the desired services without proper management and good governance.
Consequently, doctors involved in health administration from grassroots to the district level will receive modern training in “Health Management” in phases.
Muhit added that Savar Health Management Institute is not meant solely for the local population but will play a pivotal role in improving the public health system nationwide.
Under this initiative, civil surgeons from all 64 districts, divisional health officials, and doctors in charge of upazila health complexes will receive training at this institute.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication, Muhit said ensuring good governance in health sector is their primary goal, and they are working with the determination to build a “Healthy Bangladesh” by enhancing healthcare quality at grassroots level.
