Two students shot amid Chashara gang clash in Narayanganj

Two students were shot while caught in the crossfire between rival groups in Chashara, Narayanganj, on Thursday morning.

Both were seriously injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victims are Rakibul Hasan Raqib, 22, a third-year student at Hazi Misir Ali University College in Fatulla, and Mohammad Imran, 14, a student of a local madrasa’s Hefz department.

The incident occurred around 11am in front of Chandni House in Chashara.

Raqib told reporters that he left his home in Shantinagar, Harihar Para, to attend an exam at his college. On his way, he came across the clash between two groups in the area.

A gunman reportedly aimed at him and fired. He claimed he is not affiliated with any group and did not know why he was targeted.

Imran’s sister, Isha Moni, said her younger brother was returning home on foot from his madrasa in Panchbati when he was caught in the fighting.

He was shot in the abdomen and collapsed on the road. She said doctors indicated his condition is critical and he would require at least eight bags of blood before surgery to remove the bullet.

Dhaka Medical Police Camp in-charge, Md Faruk, confirmed both victims are receiving emergency treatment. The incident has been reported to Fatulla Police Station.
