Two people were shot by assailants at a mosque in Daulatpur, Khulna city on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 5:30am during Fajr prayers at the West Kashipur Power Plant Jame Mosque under Daulatpur Police Station.
The injured are Lokman Hakim, 45, the mosque committee secretary and a resident of North Kashipur; and Alam Mondal, 55, of the same area.
Police and local sources said several criminals entered the mosque during prayers and opened fire targeting Hakim. He was shot in the head. The victim was taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Alam Mondal sustained bullet wounds to his head, left side of the neck, and right hand. He was quickly taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors said he is out of danger.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Md Abdur Razzak confirmed the incident. He said law enforcers rushed to the scene and launched an investigation.
Details would be provided later, and efforts are on to identify the motive and those involved, he added.
