Police have recovered two semi-decomposed severed human hands from the side of Rahmatganj embankment, adjacent to Rahmatganj Iron Bridge in the capital’s Kamrangirchar.
The hands were recovered on Saturday and sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue on Sunday for an autopsy.
According to the inquest report, Kamrangirchar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Brojo Kishore Paul said pedestrians spotted the hands lying by the embankment and notified the police via 999 emergency number.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found one hand severed from the elbow and another severed from the arm. The hand severed from the arm was covered in a white cloth inscribed with “DMCH 2024-25 financial year.”
SI Paul said it is initially suspected the severed limbs were left at the site by a patient’s relatives following a surgical procedure at a hospital. However, the police are also investigating whether any other incident is involved.
Moreover, the autopsy doctor has been asked to clarify whether the two severed parts belong to the same person, and whether they belong to a man or a woman.
