Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two more suspects, including an FIR-named accused, in connection with the killing of RAB officer Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan in the Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda.
The arrestees, identified as Md Mizan, a named accused in the case, and his associate, were detained in raids carried out on Sunday and Monday in Khulshi and Bayezid Bostami police station areas of the city.
RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, saying the suspects were handed over to Sitakunda police station. With the latest arrests, five people have now been detained in the case. Earlier, another accused, Kala Bachchu, was arrested on Friday from the Chhinnamul No 1 Samaj Bazar area of Jangal Salimpur.
According to RAB, the incident occurred on January 19 when its members came under attack while attempting to arrest a suspect in Jangal Salimpur.
Local miscreants allegedly confined and beat the officers, leaving Deputy Assistant Director and Naib Subedar Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan dead. Three other RAB members were injured and are undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Chattogram.
A case was filed with Sitakunda police station on January 22, naming 29 people, including prime accused Mohammad Yasin, and 150 to 200 unidentified individuals.
The case statement alleges the attackers used sharp weapons and sticks on Yasin’s instructions, snatched away a detainee and briefly abducted four RAB members, who were later rescued by the army and police.
