Two unidentified young men were killed, and another was critically injured when a train struck their motorcycle at the Dudhpatila railway crossing in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga on Thursday afternoon.
The injured survivor was identified as Abdul Kader, 25, of Dugdugi Kolonipara village in the same upazila. One of his legs was severed in the accident.
According to local and family sources, Kader and two friends, who were visiting him, were out for a ride on a motorcycle on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 5:30pm, while they were crossing the Dudhpatila railway tracks, the ‘Mahananda Mail’ train coming from Khulna rammed into their vehicle.
The two unidentified men died on the spot, while Kader sustained life-threatening injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene, rescued Kader, and admitted him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Damurhuda Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mesbahuddin confirmed the incident, saying that both police and railway authorities have reached the site and are working to identify the deceased and recover the bodies.
