Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle in Iswarganj Upazila of Mymensingh on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Haji Uddin, 65, son of Zahir Uddin from Rajibpur union, and Zahid, 18, son of Abdul Alim from the Maizbag area.
Station Officer Ram Prasad Pal of the Fire Service confirmed the incident.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Nandail-bound auto-rickshaw from Iswarganj collided head-on with a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Maizbag Gurustan Madrasa area around 5:30pm, leaving motorcyclist- Zahid and Haji Uddin, an auto-rickshaw passenger, died on the spot.
Another person sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby health complex for treatment.
Fire Service personnel recovered the bodies and handed them over to police.
Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Azam said the accident caused temporary traffic congestion on both sides of the road. Police later cleared the vehicles and restored normal traffic movement.
