Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Tuesday to discuss the potential supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia to Bangladesh to address the country’s growing energy demands.
The two officials also explored possible areas of bilateral cooperation in agriculture and climate change, as well as opportunities to enhance trade and investment between the two nations.
Ryle briefed the State Minister about the visit of an Australian Parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick, MP, who is in Bangladesh this week.
During their visit, the Australian delegation will meet Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP, and will also tour the Parliament building and the July Revolution Memorial Museum. The delegation is expected to observe parliamentary proceedings, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The State Minister emphasised the importance of cooperation in skills development for the labour force and women’s empowerment. She expressed her hope that the visit would strengthen Bangladesh-Australia bilateral ties following the formation of the new government.
