Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Aazam Khan has accused the opposition of attempting to destabilise the country through its activities outside parliament.
He made the remarks at a pre-procession rally organised by the Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal in front of the National Press Club around 11am on Friday.
“The government and the opposition must work together to build the country,” Aazam Khan said.
He alleged that the opposition, despite raising issues in parliament, was trying to destabilise the government and the country through its activities outside the Parliament.
Referring to the opposition’s long marches and calls to bring down the government, the minister said their activities reminded him of political developments in 1991, when, he claimed, there were calls to prevent then government from governing without disruption.
Aazam Khan further claimed that people were not supporting the opposition’s programmes and did not want to see further violence.
“People want to see elections every five years,” he said.
The minister said the BNP had taken responsibility to serve the people rather than rule the country.
He also alleged that the opposition believed the government could be brought down through threats and intimidation.
“The politics of sabotage, threats and intimidation will no longer continue,” Aazam Khan said.
