Two people were killed after a bus collided with a battery-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Bason area of Gazipur city on Thursday.

One of the deceased was identified as Sujon, a resident of Madarganj upazila in Jamalpur district. The identity of the other victim could not be confirmed immediately.

The accident took place around 12:45pm when a bus of Binimoy Paribahan struck the three-wheeler after its driver reportedly lost control of the steering, killing two passengers on the spot, said Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station.

A local fire service unit responded to the incident and recovered the bodies from the scene, said Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The bodies were later sent to the morgue at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
