At least two people were killed and 25 others injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a brick-laden truck in Bhanga, Faridpur on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 11:30am on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barisal highway near Naopara, close to the Livestock Office, according to Officer-in-charge Md Helal Uddin of Bhanga Highway Police.
Police said the Bhanga-bound truck from Faridpur collided with a passenger bus coming from opposite direction, leaving truck’s assistant dead on the spot. The driver of the truck succumbed to his injuries at Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Eight to ten passengers sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the health complex, while another 10 to 12 received preliminary care.
The identities of the deceased and the injured have not yet been confirmed.
Police are continuing investigations and rescue operations at the site.
Dr Md Aktar Hossain of Bhanga Upazila Health Complex’s emergency department said two people have died in the accident.
Around 25 to 30 passengers were injured, including eight critically injured who have been transferred to Faridpur for further treatment.
