Two people, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents in Narayanganj between Friday night and Saturday morning.
In the first incident, a child named Sinthia Rahman Humaiya was killed on the Jalkuri overpass on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road under Siddhirganj police station. The accident occurred at 10pm on Friday when a private car, attempting to overtake, hit a CNG-run autorickshaw.
The impact caused the autorickshaw to overturn, and Sinthia was thrown out of the vehicle’s door, falling from the overpass to the ground below. She died on the spot. Four others, including the child’s father Ashikur Rahman Shamim, mother Sanjida, younger brother Ayman, and the unnamed autorickshaw driver, sustained serious injuries. The family members are residents of Munshiganj district.
Local residents detained two individuals from the private car, subjected them to a mass beating, and handed them over to the police. The injured were rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Siddhirganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mofizur Rahman confirmed the death and said both the private car and the autorickshaw have been seized. Two persons have been detained, and legal proceedings are underway.
In a separate accident around 10am on Saturday, a van driver named Dulal Mia, 58, was killed after being run over by a truck in the Char Syedpur area of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila.
Dulal Mia, the son of Monir Mia from Kishoreganj, resided in the Dogair area of Demra in Dhaka. He was hit by a truck belonging to Shahjalal Transport Company while delivering refrigerator waste materials. Witnesses reported that the truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident.
Upon receiving the news, a police team led by SI Kajol of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station recovered the body and took it to the station.
Narayanganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajedur Rahman said the body has been recovered and legal action will be taken following an autopsy. Efforts are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend the fugitive truck driver.
