Two employees were injured after a group of people attacked them at the office of the Dhaka Newspaper Hawkers’ Multipurpose Cooperative Association Limited at Dainik Bangla Intersection in the capital on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at around 4:45pm at the organisation’s office on Rajuk Avenue, reportedly over a dispute involving control of the association.
Sonia Parveen, duty officer at Motijheel Police Station, confirmed the incident to TIMES of Bangladesh.
According to police and witnesses, a group of 30 to 35 people entered the office allegedly led by Muminul Islam, joint general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of Bangladesh Awami Olama League.
The group allegedly fired two blank shots before carrying out vandalism and looting inside the office.
The two employees, who were on duty at the time, attempted to resist the attackers and were beaten with sticks.
They were later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, a team from Motijheel Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police said they were investigating the incident and that further legal action would be taken based on the findings.
