Police arrested two prime suspects on Sunday night in connection with the murder of a youth, Mohammad Kawsar Zaman Bablu, 34, in Raozan, Chattogram.

Arrests were made during a special operation in the East Raozan area. The arrestees have been identified as Md Shafi, 39 and Md Suman, 33, both residents of the East Raozan area. Shafi is the third-named accused in the case, while Suman is the fifth.

Preliminary police findings suggest that the murder was a planned act stemming from a long-standing previous enmity.

The victim, Bablu, was the second son of Abul Kalam Saudagar, residing in the Alikhil Khamartila area. He worked as a day labourer and was also involved in small-scale contracting for the supply of sand and bricks.

According to the case statement and local sources, the incident occurred around 2:30am to 3:00am on Friday.
Bablu was returning home from an invitation at his maternal grandfather’s house, accompanied by his cousin. A group of miscreants intercepted them at the north-east side of BNO Brickfield, adjacent to Dhalar Mukh in the municipality.

Bablu sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his back. His relatives rescued him in critical condition and took him to a local hospital and later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the killing, the victim’s father, Abul Kalam, filed a murder case with Raozan Police Station, naming 12 individuals and including 3 to 4 other unidentified persons as accused. Mohammad Sajedul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, said police operations to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing under the directives of the District Superintendent of Police.

The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Anisuzzaman, confirmed that special drives are being conducted to arrest the other suspects and recover the weapon used in the homicide.
