Two children have died after falling into ponds in separate incidents in Kalkini Upazila of Madaripur on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as one-and-a-half-year-old Jisan Islam Hamim and Hridoy Fakir,3, Kalkini Police Station officer-in-charge KM Sohel Rana confirmed.
The incidents took place in Baligram and Kayaria unions of the district.
According to police and family members, the children were playing when they slipped into nearby ponds without anyone noticing.
After they went missing, locals later spotted their bodies floating in the water and rushed them to the Kalkini Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
The OC said that the bodies were handed over to the families after completing legal formalities.
