Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two people with ten gold bars from the Bajitpur border in Meherpur. The recovered gold is estimated to have a market value of Tk2 crore 10 lakh.

They were arrested on Sunday afternoon, 50 yards inside the international border marker under the Bajitpur BOP. The arrested men are Abbas Ali, 45, of Buripota village in Sadar upazila, and Mizan Rahman Sheikh, 24, of Shahapur village under Tehatta police station in Nadia district of India.

Haider Ali, Assistant Director of Chuadanga-6 BGB, said that when a patrol team led by Bajitpur camp commander Shahjahan Siraj approached the Indian border, the movements of Mizan and Abbas appeared suspicious.

A search was conducted, and ten gold bars were found on Mizan. They were then detained and taken to the Border Observation Post (BOP) camp.

He said a gold smuggling case is being filed against the two, who will be handed over to Sadar police station.
