A drum truck driver was killed and another man seriously injured after they were electrocuted at a brick kiln in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Friday.
The victim, Mahirul Islam, 35, was the son of the late Abdul Majid from the Paschimpara area of Terail village in the upazila.
The accident occurred at the Five Star brick kiln in Garadob Porapara area while soil was being unloaded from a drum truck.
Local residents said the truck’s drum was lifted during the unloading process and came into contact with an overhead power line passing beside the kiln.
Mahirul Islam was electrocuted and suffered severe burns, dying on the spot.
Another worker, Sojib, 30, son of Laltu Mia from Chhatian village, was seriously injured in the incident.
He was rescued and taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex before being referred to Kushtia Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Gangni Upazila Health Complex duty doctor Russell Rana said Sojib’s right leg was severely burnt and he also suffered injuries on different parts of his body.
He was sent to Kushtia Medical College Hospital after receiving primary treatment at the health complex, the doctor added.
Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Das said police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
