The Speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has targeted the United States military with mocking remarks on social media after the confirmed crash of an American refuelling aircraft in Iraq.

Ghalibaf questioned the actions of US President Donald Trump, stating that American citizens “deserve to know” why their “sons and daughters” are being sacrificed to support what he termed the “expansionist delusions” of Netanyahu, reports Al Jazeera.

The social media post further included a hashtag relating to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender. Ghalibaf noted Epstein’s past association with President Trump and alleged that he possessed links to the intelligence apparatus of Israel.
