Jessica Head, the wife of Australian cricketer Travis Head, has said she received abusive messages on social media after her husband’s heated exchange with Virat Kohli during an IPL match.
The incident took place during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 55 run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Hyderabad last Friday. Head and Kohli exchanged words on the field during the match. Kohli also appeared to avoid the usual post match handshake with the Australian batter.
Jessica said the reaction on social media became intense after the match. She claimed that many abusive comments started appearing on her accounts.
She told The Adelaide Advertiser, “It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup.”
She was referring to the 2023 World Cup final where Australia defeated India. Travis Head played a match winning knock of 137 runs and received the player of the match award.
Jessica said, “I woke up to my socials blasting… we are fine but they are attacking my friends and family.”
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer also shared his views on the incident. He said the matter should have ended on the field.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer said, “That thing should end on the ground. Then you have to shake hands and move on. You should not carry it.”
He also said, “Kohli is an ambassador of the game…It was not right. He is too big a player to be doing this.”
