A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Salman F Rahman and six other directors of Beximco Group for failing to repay defaulted loans of Tk386 crore to United Commercial Bank.

The order was issued on Thursday by Judge Mujahidur Rahman of Dhaka’s Finance and Loan Court-5.

Former adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman has been in jail since 13 August last year, when he was caught trying to flee after the fall of the Awami League regime following the student-led July Uprising.

Since then, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has brought several cases of embezzlement against the former Beximco vice-chairman, who has been accused of laundering hundreds of thousands of crores during the Awami League government’s tenure.

Most recently, on 3 November, the ACC approved the filing of five separate cases against the former Sheikh Hasina adviser, along with 33 others, on charges of embezzling Tk1,939 crore through stock market manipulation and loan fraud.
