A fire erupted early Thursday at the Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant in Polash upazila, Narsingdi, damaging a transformer and interrupting electricity supply for several hours.
Abdul Shahid, senior station officer of Polash Fire Service, said the blaze started in the 132/33 KV transformer around 4:30 am. Two fire units arrived at the spot by 5 am and managed to extinguish the fire after nearly an hour of effort.
“The transformer was completely burnt,” Shahid confirmed, adding that a short circuit could be the cause. The exact reason will be determined after a formal investigation.
Following the incident, power was cut in Polash upazila and Kaliganj until around 9 am, with electricity gradually restored in different areas by 9:30 am.
Attempts to contact Chief Engineer Enamul Haque for a statement were unsuccessful, as he ended the call and asked to be reached later.
