Trade activities between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole and Sonamasjid land ports will be suspended in observance of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
Shamim Hossain, director of Benapole Port, stated that operations will be halted from September 28 and continue until 2nd October. “The export and import activities will resume from 4th October,” he added, noting that internal operations at the Benapole Customs House and port will continue, allowing goods clearance and the return of Indian trucks, reports UNB.
Ruhul Amin, general secretary of the Sonamasjid Land Port C&F Agents Association, said, “Due to Durga Puja, another government holiday, and the weekly holiday, the import-export between the countries will remain closed until October 3.”
He added that immigrants holding valid documents will still be permitted to cross the border during the suspension.
