The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued comprehensive traffic guidelines and diversion directives to facilitate wreath-laying ceremonies at 36 July Memorial in Shahbagh and cultural concerts scheduled for Suhrawardy Udyan and Manik Mia Avenue.
The measures, intended to ensure public order and ease congestion during the commemorative programmes, were detailed in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam on Tuesday.
The restrictions will take effect from 5am on Wednesday and remain in place until further notice.
During this period, vehicular movement will be limited around Suhrawardy Udyan, Shahbagh, Khejur Bagan, and Manik Mia Avenue, with several points operating under specific diversions.
According to the DMP directives, the following traffic routes have been modified –
Farmgate to Shahbagh: Vehicles must turn left at Hotel InterContinental Crossing and proceed via Hare Road and Minto Road.
Golap Shah Mazar Crossing: Passenger vehicles heading towards Shahbagh via High Court and Matsya Bhaban crossings will be diverted through Kakrail Mosque crossing.
Sayedabad to Shahbagh: Traffic should travel via Mirpur Road, passing through New Market, Azimpur, Chankharpul, and Bakshibazar crossings. Alternatively, vehicles may use Bata and Katabon crossings, turning right or left towards Hatirpool, Palashi, and Nilkhet.
Mirpur Road to Farmgate (via Manik Mia Avenue): Northbound vehicles must turn left at Gono Bhaban Crossing to access Lake Road, then proceed to Urojahaj Crossing and turn right at Bijoy Sarani to reach Farmgate.
Farmgate to Manik Mia Avenue (via Indira Road): Vehicles must turn right at Khejur Bagan Crossing, move to Urojahaj Crossing, and then turn left onto Lake Road towards Gono Bhaban.
Dhanmondi to Farmgate: Vehicles from Dhanmondi 27 are advised to go via Asadgate, take a U-turn at Gono Bhaban crossing, and proceed through Lake Road, Urojahaj Crossing, and Bijoy Sarani.
Asadgate to Farmgate: Traffic should turn left at Asadgate, right at Gono Bhaban Crossing, and follow Lake Road–Urojahaj–Bijoy Sarani route.
Elevated Expressway/Indira Road to Dhanmondi: Vehicles should turn right at Khejur Bagan, left at Urojahaj onto Lake Road, and then left at Asadgate towards Dhanmondi.
Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi 27: As barricades on Manik Mia Avenue will be removed, southbound traffic will use Shyamoli–Shishu Mela–Gono Bhaban–Asadgate route.
To prevent severe congestion and public hardship, DMP has specifically requested commuters using Elevated Expressway to avoid Farmgate exit ramp.
Instead, drivers are urged to use FDC (Hatirjheel) exit ramp for the duration of the events.
