Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury is mourning the loss of his father, Biplabankur Roy Chowdhury, who died at the age of 84. The actor’s father passed away just a day after Tota’s birthday.
According to reports, Biplabankur Roy Chowdhury had been suffering from lung cancer. However, the family could not identify the illness earlier as he showed no major symptoms.
His health condition worsened when his back pain increased, following which the family rushed him to hospital. Doctors later informed them that he had reached the final stage of lung cancer.
Tota’s wife, Sharmili Roy Chowdhury, said Biplabankur had been suffering from increasing back pain and his spine had gradually become bent, causing him to lean forward. After medical consultation, doctors confirmed that he was in the fourth stage of lung cancer.
She said Biplabankur suffered for only around three days and remained under close medical observation during his hospital stay.
Last week, on Tota’s birthday, the actor visited his father at the hospital to seek his blessings. At the time, Biplabankur was wearing a mask and had tubes attached to his nose and mouth, which prevented him from speaking.
However, he placed his hand on Tota and blessed his son. He passed away the following day.
The sudden loss has left the family struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. Tota is reportedly devastated by his father’s death and has remained away from conversations with others.
The actor will perform his father’s final rites on 22 July.
Tota has always kept his personal life away from the spotlight, which is why news of his father’s death remained limited to the actor’s close circle within the industry.
