Actor Tom Holland has admitted that promoting films is far more enjoyable when he genuinely believes in the final product, revealing that some projects from his past were difficult to defend during press tours, writes Deadline.
The British star, who is currently promoting Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, made the remarks during an appearance on the Dish Podcast.
Reflecting on his current promotional tour, Holland said he has enjoyed discussing both films because he is genuinely proud of them.
“I’m absolutely loving it. When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy. Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really think people should go see it,” he said.
The actor also acknowledged that not every film in his career has inspired the same confidence.
“I’ve had experiences before when people say, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s shit,'” Holland added.
He described the current promotional campaign as “a bit of a victory lap”, saying he was proud of both of his latest releases.
The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, has already crossed $300 million at the global box office during its opening week.
Based on Homer’s epic poem, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope and Holland playing their son, Telemachus.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Set after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film follows Peter as he continues protecting New York after Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of his identity.
As Spider-Man, he also faces a mysterious new evolution of his powers.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 31 July.
