Joint forces in a drive arrested three people and seized a “microbus” (or minivan) of an independent candidate along with Tk10.49 lakh at Chandanaish municipality area in Chattogram district early Wednesday.
The arrestees were Md Enamul Haque, Emran and driver of the microbus.
Ilias Khan, officer-in-charge of Chandanaish Police Station, said a team of police and army members intercepted a microbus owned by independent candidate of Chattogram-14 Mizanul Haque at Abdul Bari Haat and seized Tk 10.49 lakh from the vehicle around midnight.
Later, the joint forces arrested three people in connection with the incident.
During preliminary interrogation, they claimed that the money was being carried for the polling agents of independent candidate Md Mizanul Haque, who is contesting the election under the “football” symbol.
The driver also failed to present valid documents, claiming the vehicle was taken on a requisition slip but had not been reported to the relevant authorities.
